Hix & Buck, importer of exclusive wines, may have only been founded in 2009 but it has quickly established a loyal following, counting The F Word team among their client list. The wine-loving duo, Chix and Dan, aim to bring high quality wines to the UK from undiscovered vineyards across Europe, while offering great value for money. One such example is the J & L Charlemagne Brut Rose Methode Traditionelle, which was chosen by The F Word team to serve to guests as a pre-dinner treat… and what a treat it is!
This rose is a fine blend of cabernet, merlot and chardonnay grapes. This subtly bubbly wine, with just a hint of sweetness, is the perfect delicate drink for a summer afternoon. While the taste of many sparkling wines can differ quite dramatically to that of champagne, this wine easily compete against its renowned rival. The aroma, though not fruity, is quite floral and the taste is well balanced, with hints of roasted hazelnuts and juicy, ripe plums. This velvety wine certainly slips down easily alone, or as an accompaniment to a generous dish of strawberries with white balsamic, crème fraiche and a scattering of fresh mint leaves. This pale pink rose with a slight amber tone which gives it an extra depth, really is the perfect summer tipple in appearance, taste and value!
